I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I wrote about being pregnant and walking the red carpet. It was such a rush and made me feel like a strong warrior woman—traveling all over, getting gussied up—all while toting my babe around. It was a really magical time.
Just a few months into motherhood and I’m back at it with different film festivals. Any type of success in acting feels super lucrative so I’m stoked…but good grief is it hard.
The Woman Behind the Curtain
As I look back at these different pics from carpets all over, I see all the effort it took to get there. I’m talking about the really simple, yet, oh so difficult “there”…not the career of my dreams “there” but the are these clean clothes and do they fit? my make-up is done well enough…wait is there spit up on this? gotta change and we’re running late…again, “there.”
While the calm and collected actress on the carpet seems to have it together (or at least I’m hoping that’s coming across!) the mom is running on fumes. With no A-list budget for wardrobe or personal shoppers, it gets hectic fitting in time to attempt to look polished, which is part of the gig. Hair up is a given as the baby just outside of this shot is grunting, ready to pull my hair and get his dinner. Remind me why I wore black again?
My favorite part of all of these carpets, you ask? The moms. Like my mom, who made it possible for me to participate in a festival back home while still exclusively breastfeeding. My director, a mom of 2 teens, who is traveling all over the world promoting this film, a dream of hers she’s seeing come to fruition. The mom behind me in line for the latest carpet. We had an instant connection both being mamas and actresses which led to wonderful conversation, a rarity at Hollywood events. All of us just doing our thing while we raise our babes.
You think at some point I’d get used to the sheer power of women, but I just keep getting inundated with how multi-faceted we all are, and just how much we can handle…spit up on our shoulders and all.
