Hi Sleepless Moms! It’s Alexia here, the babysitter. I had the opportunity recently to travel with a family I babysit for so of course I had to share about the experience with you all! I have traveled a lot before, but traveling as a babysitter is a whole new experience. I mean, it involves hours on a plane with toddlers, so it has to be an adventure, right?
Traveling Babysitter
I never knew the extent of the hard work that goes into traveling with kids! Even just having to check a car seat and stroller is difficult. As if traveling on your own isn’t enough, add a couple kids and extra car seats and strollers and it’s a totally different ball game. It also turns out that going from a plane ride to long car rides are not kids’ favorite things to do either. I learned that in the car ride from the airport to our destination.
Thankfully, once the traveling part of the trip ended, the rest went pretty smoothly! It was so fun to explore new places with the kids I know so well. Doing my “job” in a totally different setting had its benefits and its challenges. I mean, it’s hard to enough to get kids to go to sleep at a decent time at home and without the time change. Yet I’m sure you all know that when sleep gets thrown off, so do the kids. It makes for some interesting times, especially when they get delirious. You can’t even look at them right without them getting upset.
But then there were the times that were better than any other times I’ve had working! The chance to bond with the kids in a new way was so fun, and made it all worth it. All of it – even the fits, the crying, and the lack of sleep.
Overall I’d absolutely do it again, because it was an experience I wouldn’t want to miss!
