Here in the Midwest it feels like January 73rd! Seriously, this cold snap we are in is just miserable! I am on day 5 of being trapped indoors with 3 kids. Can you picture it? When is the last time you were locked up indoors with three kids….for days…? Pray for me please.
We officially hit wind chills of -57 degrees, yeah you read that correctly! Schools are obviously closed due to this ridiculous weather, however people really do go to work and function in this cold. Very few places actually closed. It’s crazy. Why do we live here again? We are a hardy bunch, I guess.
Sub Zero Slump
I feel blessed that I don’t have to struggle to find child care and take my babies out in this polar vortex mayhem, however, I am slowly losing my mind being trapped in my house. I have baked, made obstacle courses, made forts, created art projects, and I even braved the outdoors for a few moments showing the littles some cool science experiments that can only be done in sub zero temps.
Wow, we are so lucky to experience this weather, right? Good grief.
I may be a bit of a nerd but I thought the water trick was pretty badass. You take a cup or bowl of really hot water, go out in the frozen tundra, throw the hot water up in the air, and it immediately evaporates into a pile of steaming smoke show! I did it twice now. I also blew bubbles outside, and they immediately freeze before your eyes. You guys, the air is so cold it feels like you got punched the second you walk outside. It hurts to breath, your eyes freeze, every nose hair is frozen solid in seconds, it really is painful to be outside for even just moments. You can get frostbite in under 5 minutes!
It definitely makes you appreciate spring, whenever that comes. It’s crazy to think that we are all going to celebrate and run outside this weekend when the temps get to 35 degrees! I guarantee you there will be that guy who wonders outside in shorts. Really, not kidding, there is always someone who wears shorts all year long. It’s my cousin, lol. Hey Tim!
Once 35 degrees hits we will feel the temperature swing of about 75/80 degrees…. and it will be 35 degrees, just craziness I tell ya.
My kids are fighting with each other almost instantly every morning. You know they are going stir crazy, as well. They actually have been pretty good kids. However, they are kids, locked inside….it’s going to get ugly at times!
Remember when I asked you to picture yourself locked indoors with three kids for days? Well, I’ll paint a bit of that picture for ya! Five full days of non stop bickering, hearing “It was mine first, no it was MINE first!” TOYS AND CRAP EVERYWHERE, a lot of “mom … mom .. mom..MOM!!… can I have a cookie? I’m hungry, I’m thirsty…” I want you to get me something we don’t have and then throw a holy fit because I can’t make it magically appear. Crying, lots of crying. Park Ranger LB, lots and lots of Park Ranger, the littles are obsessed with that YouTube channel! No offense to the son and dad duo, but I can’t stand listening to another episode! Ugh shut up already about your Dino adventure!
Non-stop running… everywhere! My gosh, I wish I had a dollar for every time I said stop running! Or stop jumping on the couch, or stop kicking your sister, or keep the pillows on the couch, or STOP!
Yup, it’s official, I AM going crazy and my mind is for sure gone.
My only means of surviving now is the fact that I have vino left. Phffft, you honestly think I wouldn’t have made sure to stock up before the lockdown commenced? Polar vortex 101, never run out of wine!
Well, the end is near, tomorrow will only be -7 so I have THAT to look forward to!
