Imagine being a first time mom in a foreign country where you don’t speak the local language and the closest family member is thousands of miles away. This is how me and my daughter Audrey became best friends, and how my husband and I became stronger than ever.
Mom On The Move: Living Abroad
I moved to Switzerland five years ago for my husband’s job that is demanding, to say the least. What started out as a dream opportunity to temporarily live abroad, traveling Europe, has turned into a permanent situation for our family.
If someone would have told the old me that my future would include a small village in Switzerland and raising a baby girl, I would have laughed. I would have never believed this would be my path.
Living abroad has left my husband and I completely alone to fend for ourselves and to rely on each other in a way we never have.
Sure, I miss my family back in California terribly, however I have had the time to really build a strong bond with my new family. I can fully embrace my mom role and appreciate my family back home. When I go back to California, my time with my family means so much more to me.
Looking back, I am so happy our move was presented to us as temporary. I would have never have had the courage to make the decision to live abroad and expand our family in Europe.
